Not What We Had Hoped For

We took Aiden to the Ophthalmologist today for his
eye appt. I had made the appt. back in July of this year.
It was made with supposedly, the best Pediatric Ophthalmologist
in the country at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. The Dr's
secretary called us yesterday and asked if we could be there at
9:00 AM today instead of 10:00 AM. We of course said that we'd
be there. We waited in a cramped, non-child friendly waiting
room for 3 hours before we saw the Doc.
Aiden became very fussy and by the time we actually got to see the
Doctor, it was passed lunch time and way past his naptime! He,
of course, was completely non-cooperative with any exam. The
Doctor entered the room, never as much as introduced himself to
us or even asked us our names. He immediately approached Aiden,
shone a light in his eyes and tried to manipulate his eyelid.
Aiden went hysterical and would not cooperate. Basically the
Dr. told us there was nothing he could do until he was at least
4 yrs old because he would not cooperate for the exam. He left
the room without saying goodbye, and told us to see the secretary
on the way out. So, the "Best Dr. in the world" may have great
experience but DOES NOT have people skills. Needless to say,
we will be seeking a second option. We have an appt. at Cabarrus
Eye Center on Oct. 14th. Please say a prayer that Aiden will
cooperate. If not, we truly may have to wait until he is older
to get his eye fixed.

What a sad experience!! How could they possibly justify making any patient wait 3 hours?!

We took Chloe in for a visit with an opthamologist last week and although the waiting room wasn't child-friendly either, we waited only 15 minutes to get in and the doctor used finger puppets, cartoons and toys to get Chloe (age 4) to cooperate. She was still fussy, but they were able to get the information they needed after an hour and a half.

I think you just got a bad doctor.

We are so sorry about your Doctors appt. That is awful. We will be praying that Aiden does well next time and that the doctor has better people skills. Christine

Hm - maybe you should attempt to meet or talk with a doc before hand. This guy sounds like a mr big shot jerk. You've got to be kidding me he deals with kids? Does he only do surgery on them? ie when they are out cold? There has got to be a more friendly doctor who will take a smidgen of time to try not to frighten the kid, or to let you do some of the eyelid lifting - if possible.
